Of the 12 Medicare Supplement “letter” plans available, we recommend either Plan G or Plan N. They are by far the most popular among Medicare beneficiaries and offer the most comprehensive coverage.
Medicare Supplement Plan G
Higher price, most coverage
Covers most Original Medicare (Part A & Part B) costs
Does not cover Part B annual deductible
Medicare Supplement Plan N
Lower price with a few more out-of-pocket costs
Same as Plan G with 2 exceptions:
Adds copays for doctor and ER visits
Doesn’t cover Part B excess charges

We are Medicare Supplement brokers, which means we have access to sell plans from several companies and aren’t beholden to any one of them. There are dozens of companies in the market, but we narrow the field to the ones that we think offer the most competitive rates, most rate stability year-to-year, financial stability of the company, and customer service reputation.

Aetna
Aetna is known for competitive rates, an easy application, and a user-friendly member portal. They are one of the strongest companies in the Medigap market in terms of financial stability, rates, and popularity.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
Anthem is one of the country’s largest Blue Cross companies. Their Medigap plans offer useful extras common among many carriers, like prescription drug discounts and gym programs.
Humana
Humana focuses on Medicare and Medicaid plans. They have a strong presence in the Medicare Advantage market, and their Medicare Supplement plans are competitively priced.
ManhattanLife
Founded in 1850, ManhattanLife is an excellent “niche” carrier. Their Medigap rates are in the mix with the larger competition. Their dental and vision plans are industry-leading as well.
Mutual of Omaha
Known for their excellent customer service. Rates are not always the lowest for Plan G, but Plan N is competitive. Mutual of Omaha is a mainstay in the Medicare Supplement market.
United Healthcare
Co-branded with AARP, United Healthcare sells the most Medicare Supplement plans of any company.
